What we do

Froggies Family has chosen to support two organizations in Cape Town, South Africa: Teach Love Care Network and Hewlin Compassion, which have been committed to supporting and developing communities and children in townships for many years.

Since 2013, donations have been used directly to support three major initiatives.

Education

Funding for educational materials, support, and school sponsorships

Renovation

Financing construction work

Nutrition

Food air programs

Froggies Family funds more than 200,000 meals served each year in townships on the outskirts of Cape Town, particularly in the Wallacedene neighborhood (see map).

Soup kitchen - During the Covid crisis, the needs of the poorest populations have evolved to the most basic: food. We have set up a distribution system in the heart of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods, managed by nursery managers who cook every day. We finance food, kitchen equipment, and gas.

Food parcels - Froggies Family finances and collects food from local producers and distributors who donate their surplus. We organize collections and redistribute the food in the form of food parcels.

Since 2013, Froggies Family has been financing renovation and upgrading work on 40 creches and drop-in centers (including a large facility in the township of Parow on the outskirts of Cape Town—see map). Nurseries play a vital role in township communities, provided that conditions are adequate. Nurseries are often located inside the home of the “head teacher,” which means that space is extremely limited and conditions and safety are basic.

The work involves insulating (roof and floors), fitting out the interior (storage, educational furniture), and the exterior (playground equipment, games), installing sanitary facilities, and ensuring water supply (rainwater harvesting tanks).

We are also funding structural work (extension using recycled and converted shipping containers or construction of classrooms).

Since 2013, Froggies Family has been supporting children in townships, particularly in the Bloekombos neighborhood, to give them access to education, improve their learning conditions, and give them or restore their enthusiasm for school.

Creches - The 40 ECDs supported (which take in children up to the age of 5) receive educational materials and teaching tools that they struggle to finance with tuition fees alone (which parents sometimes have difficulty paying).

School sponsorships - Since 2022, Froggies Family has also set up a sponsorship program for children starting school for the first time in Grade 1. Each year, 40 children benefit from this program, which takes place every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We offer homework support, reading and writing practice, artistic activities, team-building games, and provide a meal (sometimes the only one of the day). Sponsored children receive a complete school uniform (including socks, shoes, and backpack) and a pack of stationery supplies that is replenished during the year (A4 paper, pencils, pens, erasers, glue, binders, protective sleeves, pencil sharpeners, markers, colored pencils, scissors, and colored cardstock).

Resocialization - Froggies Family also supports children/teenagers who have “dropped out” through dedicated programs in a specialized reception center (see below), offering dedicated workshops, skills development, and career guidance. The children/teenagers also take part in 2-3 day camps designed to restore their self-confidence and get them “off” the streets, which are an extremely toxic environment.

Our partners in the field

Froggies Family has carefully selected Teach Love Care Network and Hewlin Compassion as local partners in South Africa.

They work on a daily basis, in the field and in contact with communities, to implement the roadmap defined together at the beginning of the year, in line with our three-year global plan.

We work transparently and dynamically with these partners, through monthly meetings and formal quarterly reporting (project management and financial monitoring). We guarantee support for these organizations and a significant portion of their funding.

Together, we are responsible for prioritizing projects, ensuring their execution, and adhering to the financial control.

We report to donors to ensure trust and transparency.

Hewlin Compassion

We are extremely grateful for your unwavering support, both financial and material, which enables us to continue our mission and offer our services. Thanks to your ongoing assistance, we are committed to identifying and responding to children's needs to the best of our ability.
